what the players say

WELLCHILD

December 22nd, 2008

Gareth Barry:

“When we decided to set up the Team England Footballers Charity, WellChild was exactly the kind of organisation we were looking to support. WellChild is involved with some amazing work to care for and support sick children right across the country, and the players are proud to be able to help the charity reach as many young people and their families as possible.”

TEFC

March 28th, 2008

John Terry:

“It was a collective decision by the squad to set up our own Team England Footballers Charity to enable us to both donate our England match fees and dedicate time to charities we wanted to work with. It is something the players are proud to support and be involved in.”

Steven Gerrard:

”Every player in the England team is proud to play for their country and feels it is important to use our profile in a positive way to promote the work of charitable causes that make a difference to the lives of so many people in this country.”

David Beckham:

“By donating our match fees and spending time to champion the vital work of our chosen charity partners we can help raise awareness of particular issues.”

TEFC OUTREACH PROGRAMME

March 27th, 2008

Rio Ferdinand:

“We want to provide much needed opportunities and outlets for young people to benefit through football, whether that is purely participating in activities or gaining coaching qualifications to better themselves and the community they come from.”

Owen Hargreaves:

“It is our hope our intervention will not only financially secure football and community projects across the country but encourage future aspirations and achievements.”

Children’s Hospices UK

March 26th, 2008

Frank Lampard:

“The Team England Footballers Charity is proud to have supported Children’s Hospices UK for the last 18 months; it has been a rewarding partnership for all involved. I saw first hand at Shooting Stars Children’s Hospice the fantastic facilities and care that is provided to life-limited children and their families. It was nice to put a smile on the children’s faces, but they also put a smile on mine too. I hope my visit and the various others undertaken by my team-mates will help raise awareness of the vital work children’s hospices do for children and young people, and their families.”

The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK

March 25th, 2008

Ashley Cole:

“Bobby Moore was an incredible England captain and team player, so it seems fitting to help the charity that was launched in his name after his death, to help others fight bowel cancer. I was shocked to learn bowel cancer is the second largest cause of cancer death in this country, yet more than eight out of ten cases are treatable if caught early.”

Robert Green:

“Our goal is to support the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK in their challenge to change the dreadful statistics associated with bowel cancer; a disease that in many cases could be avoided through maintaining a healthy diet and taking regular exercise. Through our association with the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK we can both help raise vital funds for cutting edge research and also increase public awareness of the disease.”

The Professional Footballer’s Association

March 24th, 2008

Gary Neville:

Speaking about the Manchester Children’s Hospital and plans for a new children’s rehabilitation unit, Gary Neville said: “It is great to be able to give something back to the local community and even more so when you can do something worthwhile for the children that come from across the country to use this hospital facility.”

Micah Richards:

Micah Richards said of his visit to Manchester Children’s Hospital in December: “It’s been a privilege visiting the children and staff at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and I am pleased to be part of a campaign raising funds towards a new hospital facility in the city centre. It will be fantastic when it’s finished.”
