Supporting sick children and their families across the UK…

WellChild is the UK’s national charity for sick children and works to support young people and their families as they deal with the consequences of serious illnesses, complex conditions and life-changing incidents.

Every year in the UK, more than 800,000 children are admitted to hospital for urgent care, 1,800 babies are diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and 4,600 babies are born with congenital heart disease. Each week, three children with cystic fibrosis will die, and every day 10 families are told the devastating news that their child has cancer or leukaemia.

WellChild is unique in its involvement across an incredibly wide range of such illnesses and conditions, and the charity focuses on three areas:

•    Care – the team of WellChild Children’s Nurses work with children and families across the UK offering vital and practical support to ensure young people with complex care needs can be cared for at home wherever possible.
•    Support – WellChild’s Helping Hands scheme works with volunteers from companies and organisations across the country to tackle simple but essential projects in the homes of sick children.
•    Research – WellChild has invested more than £20 million in ground-breaking children’s health research projects.

Prince Harry became WellChild’s Royal Patron in 2007 and attended both the 2007 and 2008 WellChild Awards which celebrate the bravery of the country’s sick children and honour the support given by dedicated family members and health professionals.

“We are incredibly grateful to the England players for choosing to support WellChild. In addition to the crucial funds raised through this partnership, which will go directly to our work to support children and young people across the UK, this relationship is invaluable when it comes to raising awareness of the need for our services. For so many of the children and young people we work with, the England players are true heroes and it is a massive boost to them as individuals, and to us as a charity to have the backing of the players.”
